Six Years of Medea
June 3, 2026 marks the sextennial era of Medea. Today, I find myself writing a personal communique for a place, a profession, and a body of work that, in truth, became far more than any of those things. Looking back, I realise that Medea was not merely a journey of building brands or practicing a design; it became a directing force in my own evolution. After six years, I can see that the work itself was only one part of the story. More significant was the intention behind it, for it continually guided me toward a deeper understanding of the creative force moving through me. What began as a pursuit of creative work gradually revealed itself as a study of creativity itself, teaching me that while I believed I was shaping the work, the work was quietly shaping me in return.
A year ago, I would have probably marked this milestone by speaking about the work we produced, the brands we built, and the achievements we attained. That is, after all, the language the worldly journey teaches us to speak. We are often conditioned to measure progress through outcomes, milestones, and visible accomplishments. Yet Medea was never born from a desire to simply build a business or establish another branding agency. It emerged from a love for something far greater. It was never envisioned around mediocrity or driven by shallow ambitions, but by something I have always honoured in work: creative energy, creative force, or what many traditions would call higher intelligence, prana. The desire was never merely to create brands, but to participate in the mysterious process through which ideas, meaning, and human intention take form. At its heart was a simple aspiration: to play magnificently in the realm of worldly dreams, to help bring visions from the unseen into the seen, and to honour the creative impulse that compels human beings to imagine, build, and create. In many ways, Medea was never about commerce alone; it was about participating in the timeless act of giving form to possibility.
Perhaps this is not the easiest thing to explain in the language of business. Yet, six years into Medea's journey, honesty feels more important than convention. Looking back, I can say with certainty that this place and the many roles I was fortunate enough to play were not only involved in creating the brands we built at Medea; they were equally involved in creating me. With each passing year, the work revealed something deeper about the nature of creativity itself, teaching me that creative practice is not merely an outward act of making, but also an inward process of becoming.
The greatest gift of this journey has been the people it brought into my life. Every client, collaborator, and conversation opened another doorway into understanding the human psyche and the subtle dynamics of relationships beyond the confines of work. My fascination with mythology and psychology has always been present, quietly woven into my interests long before Medea existed. Yet it was here that those interests truly matured. Through an ever-expanding books at medea's library, lived experiences, and the observation of human behaviour shaped by countless emotions, aspirations, fears, ambitions, and longings, I found myself studying something far deeper than branding alone.
Over time, I began to see that every brand carried traces of the people behind it. Every venture reflected a set of values, desires, identities, and stories seeking expression in the world. The work gradually became a lens through which I could observe not only how brands are built, but how human beings relate to meaning, purpose, and one another. Navigating these collective experiences led me to release many ideas, approaches, and ambitions that no longer felt aligned with Medea's deeper intention. At the same time, it invited new directions and understandings that felt increasingly connected to the core purpose from which Medea was born. In many ways, the journey became one of refinement, shedding what no longer belonged and moving closer to what had quietly been calling from the very beginning.
When Medea began in 2020, amidst the uncertainty of the pandemic, I often described it as a venture born during chaos. Looking back now, I see that period differently. Like anyone stepping onto an unknown path, I began the journey with aspirations, hopes, and a vision of what it might become, without truly knowing where it would lead. There was a desire to create something meaningful, something that could become an honest expression of what I valued in work and creativity.
Because business itself was never the central force behind Medea's creation, our aspirations revolved around something simpler yet far more important. We wanted to take genuine delight in what we do and approach every project with sincerity. We wanted every brand entrusted to us to feel valued, respected, and important. More than anything, we wanted to honour the trust, time, and resources our clients invested in their dreams. Many of the brands we had the privilege of creating emerged from this exchange of trust and creative energy, and in numerous instances, that exchange produced remarkable outcomes. Yet there were also a few occasions where things did not unfold as intended. Curiously, it was those moments that became some of the greatest teachers.
What gradually revealed itself was the psychology not only of human beings but also of the psychology we unconsciously embed into the brands we create. I began to recognise that businesses are rarely just commercial entities. They often carry the identities, aspirations, fears, values, and unresolved questions of the people behind them. In many ways, a brand becomes an extension of the psyche seeking expression through form, language, and experience. When I first began this journey, I never imagined that my interests would extend beyond the traditional boundaries of graphic design and branding. Yet today, I find it difficult to look at anything without noticing the deeper patterns beneath the surface. Whether through mythology, archetypes, psychology, or symbolism, I have become increasingly fascinated by the unseen narratives that shape both people and the things they create. This shift in perspective gradually encouraged me to approach branding not only as a creative discipline but also as a psychological one, exploring how identity, meaning, and human behaviour influence the way brands are born and experienced.
As Medea crossed its fifth year, another period of transformation began to unfold, both inwardly and outwardly. Those changes brought a greater clarity about what no longer felt aligned with our path and what we genuinely wished to move toward. While the visible manifestation of those aspirations may take time in the physical world, the direction itself became increasingly clear. This clarity required us to pause, not as an act of retreat, but as a necessary intervention. It became an opportunity to recalibrate our course and return to what brings genuine joy, authenticity, and meaning to the act of creating brands.
We live in a time where many brand experiences have become increasingly transactional, performative, and detached from genuine human connection. There is no shortage of brands speaking about purpose, vision, or mission, yet there remains a growing need for experiences that feel truly alive. The brands that resonate most deeply are often those that embody what they claim to stand for, creating something that reaches beyond the rational mind and touches a deeper layer of human experience. They create a sense of recognition, a subtle feeling of connection, where people feel aligned with the values, intentions, and meaning the brand brings into their lives.
This is the direction that now calls to us. It is what we aspire to cultivate through Medea in the years ahead. As we enter our sixth year, we find ourselves in a period of transformation, anchoring our work more consciously in the source of creative energy itself and allowing that deeper current to guide the path forward.
To every team member, collaborator, client, and friend who has been part of Medea's journey, I extend my deepest gratitude. Your trust, time, insights, and presence have all contributed to this story. Without any one of you, Medea would not be what it is today. Every interaction added another lesson, another perspective, and another layer of understanding. The story of Medea is, in many ways, the collective story of everyone who has walked alongside it.
And above all, my deepest, rawest love and gratitude belong to Medea itself. For six years, it has been far more than a place of work. It has been a companion, a teacher, and at times a mirror, continually revealing new dimensions of creativity, purpose, and self-understanding. Through moments of uncertainty, challenge, transformation, and chaos, it remained a vessel that carried intentions greater than immediate outcomes and reminded me to stay devoted to the work itself. For empowering me with a sense of purpose, for keeping alive the reverence for creative force even amidst disorder, and for continually directing me back toward what feels authentic and meaningful, I remain profoundly grateful.
